
State
Senator Mike Connolly is currently serving his fourth term in the Iowa
Senate. He represents Senate
District 14 in Dubuque.
Before
being elected to the Senate, he served six terms in the Iowa
House of Representatives.
Senator Connolly is an
Assistant Majority Leader and chair of the State Government Committee. He is
vice-chair of the Government Oversight Committee and is also a
member of the Education, Ethics, Rules & Administration, Ways & Means, and
Administrative Rules committees.
In addition
to his committee work, Senator Connolly serves on the IPERS
Investment Board and the Public Retirement Systems Committee.
Senator Connolly is an active member of the Dubuque County Democratic Party
and Board Member of the Dubuque United Way. He remains close to the people of his district through his
participation in the Loras Club, St. Joseph’s Church, and the Rotary Club.
Senator Connolly is retired after 30 years of service in the
Dubuque Community Schools. He taught history at Dubuque Senior High School
for 20 years and served in administration for his final 10 years.
Connolly
attended St. Joseph’s Grade School and graduated from St. Joseph’s High
School in Farley. In 1967, he received a Bachelors
of Arts degree from Loras College and in 1976 earned his
Masters Degree. He then served six years in the United
States Army Reserves.
Connolly and his wife, Martha Fessler, have two children,
Maureen and John.
