State Senator Tom Courtney is
currently serving his second term in the Iowa Senate. He
represents Senate District 44, which includes Des Moines and
Louisa counties, and five precincts in Muscatine County.
Sen. Courtney is an Assistant
Leader, serving as Whip for the Democratic Majority in the
Senate. He is chair of the Government Oversight Committee
and vice-chair of the Labor & Business Relations Committee.
Sen. Courtney also sits on the Agriculture, Commerce, Rules
& Administration, and Administrative Rules committees.
In addition to his work in the
Legislature, Sen. Courtney serves on the Iowa Economic
Development Board.
A member of UAW Local 807, Sen.
Courtney is retired from Case/New Holland after 30 years of
service. He has served on the Iowa Workforce Development
Board, the Southeast Iowa Health Center Board, and the
Burlington School Board.
Sen. Courtney is a six-year veteran
of the U.S. Air Force. He and his late wife, Donna,
have three children:
Dawn, a special education teacher; Shawna, an elementary
teacher; and Brian, who works as a paramedic in Colorado.
Sen. Courtney also has four grandchildren.
