State Senator Matt McCoy is serving his fourth term in the Iowa Senate after
serving two terms in the Iowa House of Representatives. He represents
Senate District 31, which includes parts of Des Moines west of Fleur Drive.
Senator McCoy is chair
of the Transportation & Infrastructure Budget Subcommittee and vice-chair
of the Ways & Means Committee. McCoy also serves on the Commerce,
Transportation, and Appropriations committees.
He
has sponsored legislation to fight drunk boating, ensure children’s dental
work is covered by insurance, and to place registration numbers on beer
kegs. In addition to his committee work, Senator McCoy serves on the
Capitol Planning Commission.
McCoy is vice-president of the Downtown Community Alliance.
He is also on the
Board of Managers of the Central Iowa YMCA, the Board of Directors for the
Iowa Council of International Understanding, and the Board of Directors for
Youth Emergency Services and Shelter. He served on the Polk County
Conservation Board for five years, and is a graduate of the Des Moines
Leadership Institute.
McCoy graduated
from Dowling High School in 1984 and earned his B.A. degree from Briar Cliff
College in 1988. Active in the Boy Scouts of America his entire life,
he attained the rank of Eagle Scout in 1981 and continues to support the Boy
Scouts' programs.
Senator McCoy has one son, Jack.
He is a parishioner at St. John's Lutheran Church.
