State Senator Amanda Ragan is currently
serving
her second term in the Iowa Senate. She represents Senate District 7, which includes Mitchell
and Floyd counties and parts of Cerro Gordo and
Howard counties.
Senator Ragan is an Assistant Majority Leader and
chair of the Human Resources Committee. She also serves on the
Appropriations, Natural Resources & Environment, Rules & Administration, and
Veterans Affairs committees. In addition, Ragan is a member of the Health &
Human Services Budget Subcommittee.
Senator Ragan is a part of the Healthy & Well Kids
in Iowa (hawk-i) Board, the Electronic Health Records System Task Force,
the Senior Living Coordinating Unit, and the Medical Assistance Advisory
Council.
Senator Ragan has served as a Mason City Chamber of
Commerce Diplomat and was named Diplomat of the Year in 1998 and 2001. She
has also served on the Mason City Sesquicentennial Committee, the Iowa
Democratic Party State Central Committee, the Mason City Sunrise Rotary
Board, the Kinney Pioneer Museum Board, the Buena
Vista University Alumni Association Board, and in the
North Iowa Fund-raising Professionals Association.
Ragan has worked for the North Iowa Girl Scout
Council and serves as the executive director of Meals on Wheels and
Community Kitchen of North Iowa, both located in Mason City.
She is married to James Ragan, a retired
United States Air Force Lt. Colonel, who now works as director of
Community Relations at KCMR radio in Mason City. Senator Ragan has two
grown children, Edith and Charles.
